JAM's Top 5 Oscar Dresses Ever

Yes we do it every year and our mind always changes slightly, but this year, these are our fave Oscar dresses of all time.

JAM's Top 5 Emma Stone

Emma Stone has such great style, the girl does colour so well and always looks v glam while maintaining that charming geeky 'i don't belong here' look.  The Lanvin dress she wore at the 2011Baftas was J's fave.
And as for her hair colour, not many girls can be blonde, brunette AND a red head.

JAM's Top 5 Golden Globe Dresses

In honour of the big night tonight, JAM looks back at the best Golden Globes dresses of all time - here are the top 5, it was a toughie...

JAM's Top 5 Michelle Williams

There are a few women who gets the cute, natural, stylish, non-sexy look spot on - Zooey Deschanel and Rachel Bilson for example.  It's a look that often men overlook and it's just the girls that notice. However, the girl that always seems to get it spot on is Michelle Williams.  She always looks cool, classy, non-showy and classic.  She rocks that pixie cut, suits girly, tailored dresses to a tee and wore one the best Oscar dresses of all time.

JAM's Top 5 2011 Couples

Right, just to be clear, Posh&Becks, Beyonce&Jay-Z and Katy&Russell still are our ultimate celeb couples, but these ones below are our new favourites...

JAM's Top 5 Kate Middleton

JAM don't love Kate Middleton, her hair is always the same, she often looks too sloaney with her suede boots and awful coats and she doesn't make the most of all these designers who are begging her to wear their clothes.  However, every now and then she smacks it. And here are our top 5, including THAT dress.

JAM's Top 5 LFF Red Carpet Style

JAM love it when fun things happen in London - fashion weeks, weddings, premieres etc so The London Film Festival is always a goodie. Here are JAM's top 5 outfits from this year.

JAM's Top 5 Beyonce Street Style

JAM love Beyonce, she's one of the coolest people on the planet as far as we're concerned. Her red carpet outfits are always fierce and diva-ish, but it's her street style that makes us green with envy. She rocks denim shorts like no other and her shoe collection is to die for. Here are our top five Beyonce street style outfits.

JAM's Top 5 Fashion Week Outfits

New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks have given us A LOT to look at.  All our faves come out of the wordwork and try their darndest to look their best.

These are our top 5 from the last few weeks. We may be a little predictable - Clemence Posey, Alexa Chung, Jessica Hart, Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth all stole the show for us.

JAM's Top 5 Oscar Dresses

This probably changes every year depending what mood we're in...but here are our top 5 Oscar dresses of all time.  SO excited about what everyone's going to wear this eve!

JAM's Top 5 People of 2011

These are the people we're keeping an eye on this year...

Top 5 Diane Kruger

JAM LOVE Diane Kruger.  The woman is a force - she dates Pacey, is in good films, is friends with Karl Lagerfeld, has that good public/private life balance thing and dresses like a genius.
Her street and airport style is spot on but JAM love her most for her girly dresses and fabulous shoes combo.  And also for one of our best Oscar dresses ever.

Top 5 Britney songs that should have been in the Glee special

JAM had been looking forward to the Britney Glee special ever since the first rumours began circulating - we are of the age where Miss Spears is our generation's Madonna, a maverick of reinvention, slightly mad, and turns out tune after tune of perfect pop, so it was only a matter of time before Glee paid proper tribute to her (her special should have gone before Lady Gaga's if we're honest). However, when we finally sat down to watch it we hate to say we were slightly...err...disappointed. The best thing about it was Glee Britney's INCREDIBLE dancing. Jesus. That girl can't have joints, surely if you opened her up it would just be a network of elastic bands. But we feel there were some moments missed with the song choices. Here are the top 5 tracks that should have made it in:

A personal favourite of M's...but aside from that, it would have worked perfectly in the context of the episode. They should have all sung it to Mr Shue when he tried to stop them singing Britney because she's a 'bad role model'
We know Baby One More Time had to be done, however, who knew it was possible for Lea Michele to butcher a song? Her cringey version of it was made more noticeable for following Glee Britney's fantastic dancing...Lea looked like she was doing an awkward school talent tribute (which is kind of what Glee is but still) this one may be uber-cheesy but perfect for Rachel and would have had Lea Michele emerge from the episode with her dignity intact.
With Mr Shue and his woman troubles there had to be place for them all to do this somewhere. Almost as good as Toxic for a floor filler.
Kurt spent the most time begging to do Britney and they didn't even give him a proper number to do...err hello does anyone remember his Single Ladies?? Think the writers were missing a trick here - Kurt doing Boys would have been genius.
or
Rachel doing a non-Britney ballad at the end was a massive cop out. Noone gives a fuck about the storylines on Glee, the lyrics are somewhat irrelevant - she could have got away with one of these instead...still kind of works!

JAM's Top 5 Golden Globes Dresses Ever

So here we go, the awards season has started!! Sunday sees the arrival of 2011's Golden Globes and along with it the first burst of red carpet amazingness.
We just can't wait to see what this year's Hollywood darlings will wear - Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, Sandra Bullock and will the originals be there - Demi Moore, Jessica Alba, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emily Blunt?? Yes, the Golden Globes is the poor man's Oscars but it's still so exciting!
Here are our top 5 GG dresses of all time...

JAM's Top 5 Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba was never really a JAM person, we really did use to dislike her.  Obviously she was beautiful but she always looked so smug and arrogant.  These days we look at her and want to give her a round of applause because the girl sure can pull an outfit together.  Sure, she's had help, but she gets it right literally every day both on the red carpet and off.
Our top 5 is below...we literaly want every item that she's wearing, especially the denim dress, been trying to find one of those for ages!

JAM's Top 5 Blake Lively

In the past JAM disregarded Blake Lively as her clothes were always too tight and there weren't enough of them.  However, in the past six months, Blakehas emerged as an up and coming leading Hollywood lady in the style stakes.  Our top 5 below does not include any GG outfits, but the show's styling which has massively stepped up this season has had a clear influence on Miss Lively's personal style.
It also helps that she's incredibly beautiful, a body to die for and the pick of the latest collections, but then again achieveing a front row seat next to Anna Wintour at the Paris Couture shows is no mean feat.
The girl is perfect for red carpet but she can also rock a good street outfit.  Here is our top 5:

JAM's Top 5 Scary Celebrities

In honour of Hallowe'en, JAM have put together their top 5 scary celebs - celebs that are just so weird they freak JAM out and would probably also be a nightmare to work with...

JAM's Top 5 Rising Stars Under 16

These are the young talents that make us feel incredibly unsuccessful! Some more than 10 years younger are already exuding a poise and maturity some of us over at JAM HQ can only dream of. From Chloe Moretz and her scene stealing middle England shocking turn in Kick Ass, to be followed by the US remake of barrier pushing Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In, to the Smiths' frighteningly precocious 9 year old daughter Willow with her almost Gaga-esque fashion sense and cult hit first single...yes, 9 years old...then there are the three perfect Beckham boys, one already has a fashion line, one has break-danced on stage in front of millions and the third looks set to inherit his father's skills on the pitch - all three are totally at home on the red carpet and have been papped almost every day of their lives. Next we have Elle Fanning, 12 year old younger sister of Dakota, who made waves at this year's Venice Film Festival for her performance in Sofia Coppola's new film and looks set to be a natural at red carpet dressing despite not even having entered her teens. Lastly Madonna's first born Lourdes (or Lola to those in the know) another from the Willow Smith mould with a unique fashion sense and apparent confidence well beyond her years. Maybe this comes from a lifetime of privilege or its simply a genetic thing but these girls know how to work it. Lourdes held her own styling teenage grump du jour Taylor Momsen in the shoot for her own fashion line Material Girl and is now attending the Fame school in New York. Set to follow her mother's footsteps? She's practically there already! Watch these spaces...

JAM's Top 5 Current Models

There's a real current wave of models at the moment that hail back to the power supermodel days, almost the new Kate Moss's.  These girls all have incredibly unusual looks that photograph beautifully and constantly encapsulate style on and off the catwalks. We're not talking about the Agyness Deyn's who try too hard, or Daisy Lowe who is beautful but has her off days, or even the Victoria Secret's girls who just seem untouchable.  These girls have designers are clamouring to dress them as they know they're not just clothes horses but will add their own stamp to their creations.  They're edgy, cool, stylish and just make JAM want to stare at them all day....

JAM's Top 5 celebrity fashion lines

M has been lusting after Alexa Chung's gorgeous pieces for Madewell and J would fall over herself for a VB creation so this week we have decided to celebrate the best of celebrity fashion lines. The actual good ones. There is a lot of chaff out there (Katie Price, we mean you).

Alexa Chung for Madewell
Gorgeous simple pieces that reflect the Brit style icon's own wardrobe. One highlight is a t-shirt with a bat on it that sold out immediately once the lady in question tweeted a picture of herself wearing it. We're currently lusting after the fisherman's sweater, the annie blouse, the sketchbook t-shirt and all of the dresses. All of it really.
Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen and The Row
Child stars turned bona-fide fashion designers. The writing was on the wall when the twins started getting noticed for their unique and often imitated personal style. They launched a whole generation of imitators (M included, I spend one summer rocking some seriously large granny sunglasses...) and they continue to top best dressed lists everywhere always setting the trends rather than following them. Both girls dress more like fashion editors than hollywood actresses and it's no surprise that their high end luxury label The Row is loved by fashion editors worldwide. Using couture techniques to make the most desirable wardrobe staples (that are so far out of most people's price range it is painful...M would die for a pair of their seamless trousers) the girls have really proved to the fashion world that they know what they're doing and are a force to be reckoned with. We love that.
Victoria Beckham
J favourite has done an Olsens. Style icon in her own right, she put this to good use and translated it into a label that has been universally met with open arms by the fashion world. We are so pleased, we don't like VB haters over here.
Gwen Stefani and L.A.M.B.
Probably the first of these to be taken really seriously. Combining Gwen's own unique style with two of the cutest boys in the front row - what's not to like?
Kate Moss for Topshop
Every girl wants to dress like Kate Moss and thanks to Sir Phillip Green for a few years we really could. The first collection will always be the favourite, where suddenly the racks at Tophsop looked like all the familiar paparazzi shots that JAM had all over their walls of the best Kate looks around. it was like her own wardrobe was there for us at Topshop prices. Brilliant. Of course the problem was that EVERY girl feels the same way about Kate Moss and soon you couldn't swing a cat for seeing someone in the dress with one lapel in white, black or the Kate original yellow. M still has a vest from that first collection that she treasures. Sadly it is not more and he's handing the reigns over from Britain's number 1 style icon to....his 18 year old daughter. Interesting.

JAM's Top 5 X Factor Contestants So Far

OK, so this may be a little premature for a top 5 and we'll probably change our mind a million times over the next 13 weeks, but that's what it's all about hey??
So, here we go, hell we love this show.

JAM's Top 5 Saddest Celebrity Breakups

Following the Rooneys' marriage happenings in the last week (please leave him Coleen!), JAM have picked their top 5 saddest celeb breakups - the ones that took us by surprise, the ones that we wish hadn't happened and the ones that we think that if they hadn't happened, how some of these people's lives would be so much better now...

Top 5 Simon Cowell replacements for American Idol

The new series of X Factor has begun and JAM has made no secret of our collective love of Simon Cowell. However we have cast a thought over to our friends across the pond who will no longer have the wonder of Mr Simon Cowell to judge the desperate and the talented. Those are some big shoes to fill. Yes, Cheryl was a fantastic addition to the UK judging panel and send the who country into a frenzy - but only because she played good cop to the much needed Simon Cowell bad cop. At the end of the day all the rest of the judges can tell you you rocked the house down, it doesn't mean anything unless Simon pauses and says "that was...[long dramatic pause]...quite possibly...[long dramatic pause]...perhaps....[long dramatic pause]...the most...[long dramatic pause]...incredible thing i have ever seen in my life. Well done. [wink and smile]. So...who could bring that to the table instead? Here are JAM's top 5...

Cheryl Cole's Top 5 X Factor Outfits

The return of the X Factor has made us cast our minds back to the live shows over the last few years and all of Cheryl Cole's fabulous outfits. Lets be honest, that opening couple of minutes of the show is filled with trying to work out who looks better Cheryl or Dannii?? And Cheryl does usually look better, but then she is more of a spring chicken....
Here are our top 5 and then our worst.  You'll see that we have a type, basically anything short and girly...

The Top 5 Hills Episodes

In memory of The Hills, J has decided to pick her top five episodes from the last six seasons.  There's a lot to choose from, but these are the ones that spring to mind... God bless The Hills!

Top 5 Rock Offspring

There are lots of kids of rockers out and about, most of them can be seen in the Burberry ads.  They're mostly models because of their attractive parents, musicians because they got the right talent genes, or just party goers.
There's so many of them, and a few JAM have a real soft spot for.  Here are our top five, and there are no Geldofs in sight...

Top 5 Celebrity Wedding Dresses

In homage to Chelsea Clinton who looked stunning in Vera Wang yesterday, JAM have decided to look back at other high profile weddings and the most important part of them, the dresses.
Lots of celeb weddings feature dresses that are basically just expensive meringue with no uniqueness.  However, there are a select few that really stand out as amaaaazing - goddess-like, goose-pimple dresses....

Top 5 Alexa Chung

M likes to complain about Alexa Chung a lot. Thing is it's mainly because we're jealous. The girl is absolutely gorgeous, has legs up to her eyeballs and has designer clothes coming out of her ears. She is a 'contributing editor' to Vogue whatever that really means (it seems to be getting mildly famous and then being allowed to interview Karl Lagerfeld or write 1000 words about your hair style), her boyfriend is arguably the coolest front man of our generation, she lives in NYC, has a Mulberry handbag named after her (not just any Mulberry handbag either, surely the most dreamy handbag that was ever designed after the Chanel 2.55 (she has about 20 of those too)), gets VIP treatment at every gig, fashion show and music festival going and doesn't really seem to do much. You can't really blame a person for being jealous really. It is also damn hard to narrow it down to 5 because she never really puts a foot wrong. Apart from the Met Ball as J would attest. But here goes:

Top 5 Celebrity Children - Yes, we judge kids too

Obviously this is down to their parents' DNA, but these are kids we coo over when their pics pop up, the kids that look cute rather than precocious (Suri Cruise), that look well behaved rather than spoilt (Bluebell Halliwell) and have some style rather than being dressed like their parents (Princess Andre).

JAM's Top 5 Best Dressed Men

This was much harder than we thought. There are a lot of well dressed boys out there. JAM likes to be fair and we think these five demonstrate the best of every style out there...

1. The Sports Star
Becks. The original metrosexual sports star. Showing all these other footballers how it's done and just getting better and better with age (did anyone see him at Wimbledon? Time is kind to David Beckham). Whether on duty in a suit or off duty in his shades, Becks, like his wife, never fails to look immaculate.

2. The Musician
Alex Turner. Shy indie boy with the most fashionable girlfriend in town. But funnily enough Mr Turner's inclusion in this list has nothing to do with Alexa's influence. Turner's uniform of shirts, double breasted jackets & penny loafers combined with the sort of casual insouciance so absent from a lot of indie boy band try hards with bad hair and too tight jeans make him the ultimate icon of laid back rocker boy cool.

3. The Rapper/Producer

Pharrell Williams. Whether it's street style, geek chic or dapper - Pharrell can do them all. He also runs some pretty cool clothing labels. M's been trying to get her hands on her boyfriend's Bape and BBC T-shirts for a while. He won't let her borrow them.

4. The Actor
Zefron. Hollywood's golden boy. Mr I'm So Very Pretty and I Pretend Very Hard That I Don't Know It knows how to play to his California boy strengths. T-shirts, shorts, good shades and lots of shots of him on route to the gym, surfing or hanging out with his equally perfect Miss I'm So Very Pretty but I Am Not As Good As My Boyfriend At Pretending I Don't Know It girlfriend.

5. The Designer

Tom Ford. Rarely seen out of a suit, but boy can he wear a suit!

JAM's Top 5 weird couples

It may seem like JAM discusses couples a lot, weird or otherwise. This may be true but JAM isn't ashamed of it. We're big fans of love over here, not matter what shape, form or faux-goth fashion it comes in.

First weird couple...
Picture
Katy Perry is the Annette Benning of the end of noughties (what are we calling them now?), Taming the most notorious nympho on the planet with her chapstick loving lips and similar hair style. We love that Russell Brand has settled down with someone, especially someone who is quite as crazy as he is! In a good way...
Picture
These two aren't so weird in the grand scheme of real life, but for Hollywood stars they are massively weird. Are they on? Are they off? Who knows? They're just having a real relationship with ups and downs and slightly messy beginnings, and thanks to Miss Seyfried's inability to censor herself everyone else is privy to their reality. It's quite refreshing actually.
Picture
JAM can't quite believe these two are still going. Seasoned Jammers (or anyone with a secret love for all things Complicated) will recognise these huggers immediately. You can't help but think they're cute...
Picture
J has already blogged about these two but it doesn't mean they don't need to be here. IQ of 150 or not, we would really love to know what these two talk about. His last woman looks like she doesn't have two brain cells to rub together (she couldn't possibly with those outfit choices) so it's quite a departure for the thinking man's obsession of the moment. Except JAM doesn't think it applies to the actual thinking man and we're not convinced that she's all that but still, people do, and thus the idea of her with Frank is confusing. But M loves Frank too, and as long as she's less of a media whore bag than the last one then we should be happy for him.
Picture
JAM has a confession to make - we're not convinced these two are a real couple. This picture doesn't help. But they are like the American version of Cheryl & Ashley Cole. Supremely unconvincing. Someone must be gay...

JAM's Top 5 Young Up & Coming Hollywood Starlets

There are loads of young, trendy, pretty actresses running around at the moment but there are a key few who JAM can tell are going to be massive. This doesn't include the Miley Cyruses of the world, it includes those who have a coolness about them, who are on the brink of real classic Hollywood fame, those who can take over Kiera Knightley, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler as the trendy Hollywood crew...

JAM's Top 5 Most Overrated People

M was playing this around the dinner table the other evening and it turned into quite a discussion between JAM. Names like Wayne Rooney, Barack Obama and Victoria Beckham (there's no way she'll be in this top 5 when J's writing) were thrown around by various people, but as far as JAM are concerned these are the five that we have chosen.

She's not included in our Top 5, but some notice must be taken of Paris Hilton, the founding father of overrated.  She's built a career on not really doing anything yet getting a ridiculous amount of money and publicity.  Before Paris Hilton, there hadn't really been anyone quite as talentless who got so much attention, and good for her, there's been loads of people who have since tried (Katie Price, all Big Brother contestants).  She's been around for a looong time, and JAM doesn't think she's going anywhere...
Picture
Now, on to JAM's Top 5.

1. Christine Bleakley
She's being paid £4m by ITV?? Why?! She's sweet, but not that sweet, she's no Holly Willoughby. She's massively lucked out and dating Frank Lampard has definitely helped her. Adrian Chiles carried her through The One Show and he'll carry her through GMTV... However, she's the one laughing out of her ridiculously large mouth...
Picture
2. Cheryl Cole
This is controversial as obviously a lot of people love her. But lets just think about it for a minute. She's not that good at singing, her tunes aren't all that, she's a lot prettier now that she's had her teeth fixed, lost loads of weight and spent a fortune on her hair.  Lets not forget she was the ultimate WAG who has a tattooed thigh and used to wear string vests over bikini tops in public.  Simon Cowell made her a judge on the biggest TV show in the country and her naughty footballer husband cheats on her and all of a sudden she's the nation's sweetheart, is hanging out with Will.I.AM and has every designer in the world desperate to dress her. With Simon Cowell and that much money, anyone could be like Cheryl Cole. OK, fine, they'd have to be quite pretty. And be able to dance. But still, she's overrated.
Picture
3. Robert Pattinson
Again, this will piss people off - but is he really that hot? And is he really that good an actor? JAM thinks not. And honestly thinks he needs a good wash.
Picture
4. Jessica Biel
JAM hates Jessica Biel. Who can actually think of anything she was in? OK, except for Valentines Day which she was crap in. She's so dull and not that attractive and as we've seen in the last few weeks, clearly cannot dress. She seems to have not one interesting, creative bone in her body, she's even made Justin Timberlake dull.
Picture
5. Katy Perry
Last but certainly not least, the most overrated of them all, Katy Perry. Why has her novelty not worn off? Fine, she's very pretty and has a great figure. But the thing that she's actually famous for, her music, is terrible. And anyone who wears cupcakes as a bra should just go away. And yet she's treated as such an A-lister. She has nothing to say, nothing good to sing, nothing good to wear - overrated.

Top 5 current people

JAM has done this before, but really we could do it every week. Not because we're fickle, but because we adore a lot of people. It's not all bitchy with JAM. We appreciate good style and M is certainly renowned for her 'obsessions'. So this week we will dedicate the top 5 to M's current ones...

Coco Sumner

Sting's girl's been on M's radar for a while and it's not because of the aforementioned Sting thing. It's her amazing ability to wear shorts. And baggy T-shirts. And not brush her hair. These are all things that M immediately responds to. She's got laid back style down to a fine art, the perfect tomboy girl with guitar. She's not got a bad voice either. When M squeezed into a sweaty drunken venue to try and see her earlier this year it was quite striking how such a tiny person could produce such a deep and strong sound. Quite Sting-like if we're honest. Even over the sound of drunken twats chatting about the weather/facebook/how many beers they've chinned in the last few hours... Here is why:

The Pretty Reckless

We've not changed our minds about TayMo. We're pretty sure she's still a bit of a knob. We were torn on the This Morning interview. First of all why put a 16 year old in suspenders who thinks she's dead cool and hardcore on housewife TV to be interviewed by two of the least hardcore people on the planet: Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby? At least Fern lied for money. That's pretty hardcore. Holly Willoughby is like the daytime TV version of Thumper. And while she did come off ok for 50% of it, the other 50% was pure 16 year old suspenders as trousers wearing knobishness. However, we did warn you that Make Me Wanna Die might become a guilty pleasure track. Until M stumbled across this acoustic version with a teeny Oasis shaped surprise at the end. It has definitely become a guilty pleasure now. Sorry everyone, M likes The Pretty Reckless and Little J can definitely sing. Not afraid to say it either...ish...

Emma Roberts

Picture
Picture
She was the best thing in Valentine's Day and the best thing in 4321. We've said it here before but we'll say it again - JAM predicts great things for Miss Emma Roberts.

JAM doesn't do parties, but if we did...
Top 5 Guest List...

If JAM were to have a party, who would top the guest list?
Well, after much deliberation we have thought of our ideal guests...

1. Beyonce and Jay-Z - We'd invite them because then we'd all be best friends.  And JAM could then sing Alicia Key's bit in Empire State of Mind with Jay Z and dance their butt off while Beyonce sings Crazy in Love...god, getting excited about that thought just thinking about it, just imagine...
2. The Beckhams - surely no surprise that they made the list. Reckon she'd be really fun after a few glasses of vino and then our male friends could harass David Beckham all night telling him that he's their hero.  J would also end up being best friends with them too and go and hang in LA with them.
3. Lord Simon Cowell - because then he's realise how amazing JAM are and invite us to be an X Factor judge, because Cheryl is SUCH old news. And he'd have a constant supply of fags.
4. Kate Moss - the queen of the party circuit is surely a must-have, we could oogle her clothes and ask us to give us some (surely she has loads)
5. The Rolling Stones - surely the ultimate party kings.  Partying with The Rolling Stones would be awesome, and our parents would love it.  Yes, they're a bit wrinkly now, but confident that they would out-party us.  Also, they could bring all their off-spring which would be fascinating - we'd just stare at them all night.

Please can someone make this party happen??

Top 5 tracks on JAM's summer barbeque stereo at the moment

These are the top 5 tracks on JAM summer soundtrack at the moment, these are ones to turn up loud and dance around your bedroom, dance around outside, dance around at your desk hoping noone will notice...you get the idea
DUM DUM GIRLS - JAIL LA LA

M has a penchant for girl rockers, always drawn to the latest band full of hard rocking girls and Dum Dum Girls are no exception. Maybe because M really wants to be a rock star. This track from the Californa garage rockers is one to have on loudly when you're getting ready to go out. The whole album is actually. These girls also happen to have a fantastic goth rock style, lots of black lace, leather and eyeliner which is always right up JAM's street.

http://wearedumdumgirls.com/
PHOENIX - LISZTOMANIA

Where has this French band been hiding? Exploding into public consciousness with their fourth album you can't help but wonder how the hell did you miss them until now? This is certainly what JAM wonders. Their latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is perhaps the most fun summery album around and there is no way you could possibly listen to this song without smiling and a bit of vigorous foot tapping.

www.wearephoenix.com
LOCAL NATIVES - AIRPLANES

Another band from California - this song is truly beautiful and needs to be shared.

www.thelocalnatives.com
CULTS - GO OUTSIDE

While we're talking about fun and summery tracks this is one that will rectify any bad mood in just under 3 1/2 minutes. This boyfriend-girlfriend duo haven't even released an album yet but we can tell from this that they are going to be favorites at JAM HQ. Let's just hope they don't split up...

http://cults.bandcamp.com/
KATE NASH - PARIS

Not one of the singles so we have had to rely on one of those annoying gimps at gigs who would prefer to watch it through the tiny screen of their mobile phone so that they can enjoy a shit quality version of it later on rather than actually listening to in the moment. From our own personal experience of this gig it was undoubtedly recorded by the same person who kept relentlessly yelling for 'Foundations'. In this instance however we are a little grateful as we can bring you the best song from Miss Nash's second album. The intro is summery enough!

www.katenash.co.uk or for up to the minute updates on Kate and some other fantastic artists follow @FictionRecords on Twitter

Top 5 Airport Style

JAM appreciate airport style more than most.  There are a small few who get airport style bang on - Victoria Beckham (queen of the airport), Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth, Beyonce and Cheryl Cole, the woman who dealt with a marriage break-up in an airport and still a hair was not out of place.
JAM always have such high (excuse the pun) hopes to look this good when we fly - but trackie bums are more comfy than jeans, and obvs uggs are comfier than heels, and J swears that you can only get away with wearing sunglasses at an airport when you have hoards of paparazzi waiting for you - oh well, one day.
In the meantime, here are our top five airport fashion gurus.

Top 5 Sarah Jessica Parker

It may seem like JAM is a bit sycophantic but we are HUGE fans of SJP and are building up to May 28th with almost military precision. She is a phenomenon. Not many women could live up to Carrie Bradshaw in real life for sheer fashion innovation but SJP never fails to surprise and delight whether on the red carpet or off. Here are 5 fashion moments that show that in whatever situation, SJP always delivers in the style stakes...

Top 5 movie fashion moments

Sex and the City 2 is almost upon us - JAM has already booked tickets for the opening night - and as the excitement builds for the most fashionable film of the year, JAM looks at 5 classic fashion moments from the silver screen.

Annie Hall

Picture
Diane Keaton as Annie Hall is the holy grail of girl dressing like a boy and looking damn sexy doing it.

The Sound of Music

Picture
The Sound of Music is one of JAM's all time favourite films. Which little girl didn't want to be Leisel - not the dancing around singing with a Nazi of the future part - but the dancing around singing in the floaty dress that fans out perfectly when you spin around part? JAM certainly did.

Breathless

Possibly the most fashionable film of all time. The breton tops, the ballet shoes and the cigarette hanging insouciantly from every mouth. So french, so sixties and so very very cool.

My Girl

Picture
Yes, JAM is aware that My Girl is an 11 year old, but who can forget her laid back 1970s tomboy style? She would combine the little hippie puff-sleeved top with dungarees, converse and that fantastic bicycle with streamers. JAM wanted that bicycle.

How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days

Picture
Noone can really remember what the film was about, it's not going to go down in history as one of the iconic romantic comedies of all time, but that yellow dress does deserve a place in this top 5.

Top 5 Met Costume Institute Gala Dresses

JAM looks forward to seeing coverage of the Met Costume Institute Gala more than any other awards or parties.  It's so achingly a-list and the whole designer and celebrity partner trend is fascinating - whose Marc Jacobs picked, whose Stella McCartney picked?  Some iconic moments have emerged at this event, Sienna in the gold Burberry dress on the arm of Chrostopher Bailey, SJP in her Scottish get-up on the arm of Alexander McQueen, this is the party to be seen at.  If JAM could have one invite to anything, this would be it.

Here are our top 5 outfits from the Gala over the years - Scarlet Johanssen, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Kidman, The Olsens and, of course, Kate Moss. These five dresses are stunning and encapsulate the whole essence of the evening - fashion, fashion & more fashion.

Top 5 JAM Celebrity Couples

There have been many favourite JAM couples over the years - Jen and Brad, Madonna and Guy, Liz and Hugh, Sienna and Jude.... but these are JAM's faves at the moment.

1. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
Ever since Gwen wore that fabulous cream and pink Gaultier gown to marry Gavin Rossdale, we knew great things were destined for this couple. Now they have two beautiful, impeccably dressed boys, and have maintained their gorgeous, sexy, rock and roll looks.  JAM wants to be them.
Picture
2. Beyonce and Jay Z
Just THE hottest and coolest couple.  Wish we'd seen pics of their wedding and her dress, bet it was amazing.  Love it that they're friends with Chris and Gwenyth and Kanye, love it that they support each other from the sidelines when one of them is performing.  Love it that they've been together for yonks and give so little of their relationship away to the media. JAM kinda wants to be them too.
Picture
3. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden
JAM obvs loves Nicole Richie, that's no secret.  But we love these too together because he saved her.  The transformation from anorexic drink&driving train wreck to yummy mummy has been amazing.  Now they have the perfect little family who all run around looking all pretty and happy and now they're getting married to make it complete.  JAM would like to be them too....
Picture
4. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher
No-one ever thought these too would last, but they're so pretty together why wouldn't they? Go Demi for keeping such a younger man and go Ashton for not being influenced by age, or the fact that your wife's ex is Bruce Willis.  No, their set up is so perfect that they even go on holiday with Bruce.
Picture
5. Katy Perry and Russell Brand
JAM's favourite new couple.  Not really sure how long they'll last, but love them right now.  They've turned into eachother and bet they're really funny to have round for dinner.  JAM doesn't want to be them, but would like to be friends with them.
Picture
And finally...
As it's J rather than M writing this (she's in LA and may continue to be if this ash thing carries on), there's obviously one couple that has to be included.... the ultimate celebrity couple. The celebrity couple to beat all celebrity couples.

Top 5 Lauren Conrad

The Hills just isn't as good without her, and there's no way that Audrina, Heidi and Kristen are making JAM's top 5 anytime soon, so Lauren Conrad is our subject of the week.
She does California-girl style so well and JAM loves how much her style has evolved since the start of The Hills, she's really found her footing.  But then that probably has a lot to do with her bank account also evolving...
JAM loves her girly style of pretty dresses and heels but then she also rocks a pair of denim shorts.  You can tell that she just loves clothes, but they're not too flash and not too laid back, she's got the balance just right.
Here are five of our fave Lauren Conrad outfits.

JAM's Top 5 men!

This website doesn't have enough boys on it.  JAM thinks girls are prettier and more interesting to look at but we still like our boys.  So this week, we pay tribute to our top 5.  J chose two and M chose two and then we have one that we both adore.  So here goes.

J has picked her all time number one Robbie Williams, obvs.  Number two is a slight cheat, as it's actually two men but they're on the same show - McSteamy and McDreamy.  They do exactly what they say on the tin. Yum.
Picture
Picture
M's top two are George Clooney (classic) and Bradley Cooper.  Good choice.
Picture
Picture
Our joint choice is Chuck Bass.  He's so cool and good looking and smooth and well dressed and rich.  And his name's Chuck Bass.
But seriously, why are we all fussing around Aaron Johnson and Robert Pattinson when we have our best export of all Ed Westwick??

JAM's Top 5 items we are lusting over

JAM often discuss the things we want but can't have and dream about the day when we have enough money to buy them which will correspond with a time when they get sent to us for free. Oh the irony. Here are the 5 items that J is desperate to get her hands on this season...
Picture

As J is our very own Carrie Bradshaw it's only fitting her top item is a sky high pair of Manolos. J would also like it if gorgeous Missoni & Dior summer dresses, a DVF waistcoat & an Alexander McQueen necklace could all turn up at her doorstep in the next week or so. Could someone sort that out for her?

And here are the 5 things that M would like...

So that's the Chloe handbag (not fussed about the colour, they're all beautiful), some Church's summer brogues, an Erin Wasson Low Luv knuckle ring in gold (any idea how you wear it? It looks like an elaborate splint...but amazing), Miu Miu platforms and Acne's snakeskin leggings. Any of these would be much appreciated. Thank you.

JAM's Top 5 Current Cool People

Simply put, here are JAM's top 5 current style queens.  it's clear that we have a type as four out of the five ladies all look a bit scruffy, have messy hair and wear lots of eyeliner.  The fifth just has an amazing wardrobe and always looks good.
Please read on...

1. Julia Restoin Roitfeld - so pretty and so cool, it probs helps that her mother is the editor of French Vogue
Picture
Picture
2. Erin Wasson - lots of long limbs, and lots and lots of style.  She also looks like she'd throw a really good party.  She also looks a bit like Jen from 90210, but that's not really got anything to do with this Top 5.
Picture
Picture
3. Kristen Stewart - M's current love and if you knew M you would see why.  She has that adorable awkward look about her.  You can see she hates wearing dresses, and so wears converse with them, which you have to love.  She also wears skinny jeans and t-shirts like no other.
Picture
Picture
4. Taylor Momsen - even though she's like 12, seriously, how angry-looking can you be at that age, you can't help but like her grunge style.
Picture
Picture
5. Olivia Palermo - She's a complete bitch on The City, but hell does she look good.  The word 'immaculate' doesn't even cover it, she has the shiniest, bounciest hair J's ever seen, J bets she's never just rolled out of bed and thrown on a hoodie.

Top 5 Rachel Bilson

M has been re-watching The OC recently and what with that little trip down memory lane and the two pictures from this week JAM decided it was perhaps a fitting time to praise the fashion genius of Rachel Bilson. She's been a favourite since she transformed Summer from what could have been a one-dimensional dumb California beach girl to the funniest and most lovable character on televison (at the time...we're obviously very fickle...that title currently belongs to Chuck Bass) and her clothing choices off screen were just as amazing as Summer's one-liners. Sometimes classic, sometimes a  a bit quirky on the carpet but off-duty natural and accessible. She just needs to get another job other than going to the Winter Olympics with Hayden...

While collecting examples for this week's top 5 I stumbled upon this picture. Remember when Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody were together in real life? Like the perfect life and art combo. You believed they really were Seth and Summer. Who do we have now? It could have been Blake Lively & Penn Badgley but then Dan & Serena broke up after the first series so now it's just confusing. And Chuck & Vanessa are together in real life. So much wife swapping on Gossip Girl. Taylor Momsen's not going out with any of them though. She's too cool. They're probably all too young for her. Anyway...this made me smile:

Top 5 Mary-Kate Olsen

J is in NYC this week - lucky cow - and as predicted it falls to me to do this week's top 5...and M's original style icon - Mary-Kate Olsen. Both the Olsens are style icons, but for M it was always MK - more messy, more rock and roll, and more one for wearing the same jumper three times in one week despite being worth about $750 billion...maybe it wasn't the same jumper after all...she can afford to buy a new version of the same jumper every day and never have to do any washing.

The problem with leaving this task to M is that she's very indecisive - there are some many phases of MK to consider...the LA trackie bums and baggy t-shirts phase, the NYU hobo chic cowboy boots and lots of scarves phase, the wearing no trousers phase, the only wearing heels phase (really only wearing those Balenciaga wedge ankle boots that M still wishes she had every time she gets dressed), the ill-advised peroxide blonde phase and the current penchant for wearing sunglasses inside at fashion shows like some kind of Anna Wintour mini-me.

People sometimes misunderstand MK but for M (oh how I wish I had a second first name to make me just like her...) she is the ultimate style icon: looks like she doesn't give a fuck, always wears things a year before everyone else even considers them possible and has a close personal relationship with Karl Lagerfeld. She's also so rich she probably uses an original Warhol as a coffee table.

Anyway...I digress...here are some of the most iconic outfits from the seven stages of MK...

Top 5 Oscar dresses

It's the Oscars next weekend so JAM have decided to make the most important red carpet event of the year the subject for JAM's Top 5 this week.
JAM has picked these dresses because they are either iconic, stylish, classic, beautiful or all of the above.  Now there are lots of amazing dresses to choose from and not everyone may agree with this choice, but these are the ones that have stood out in JAM's mind from the past few years.
Julia Roberts winning her award for Erin Brockovich - her dress was as memorable as her performance, she looked like a classic Hollywood beauty in vintage Valentino.
Michelle Williams emerged as a style icon in this beautiful mustard dress which may actually be JAM's favourite Oscar dress of all time.
Not everyone liked Gwenyth Paltrow's Ralph Lauren candy pink dress, but JAM has included it becuase it's so iconic and kudos to Gwen for daring to wear candy pink with spaghetti straps on a Oscar red carpet.
Kirsten Dunst's Chanel is just simply cool - simple, classy and trendy, just how Kirsten Dunst used to be when JAM loved her (before she went crazy and started dating Johnny Borell)
Finally, Selma Blair in Versace - not a well-known dress, but J noticed it and loved it for its stunning colour and shape.  J's had it cut out for years and now finally gets to include it in her top 5.

Top 5 BAFTA dresses

It's that time again - JAM's weekly top 5 - and in anticipation of Sunday's event we've decided to showcase the 5 best dresses of all time. The BAFTAs are the Oscars' mate from London. A bit more laid back, the outfits are edgier and they're always first. JAM firmly believes that when people step out on these red carpets this time of year they are making a little bit of history. You remember the dresses before you ever remember who won what and these are some great ones from years past. Let's hope this year they're up to the challenge. There's a chance that M will fail to do her job properly on Sunday because she'll be too busy vetting this year's candidates for JAM on Monday morning. Here are JAM's picks from the last few years...

Who could forget Scarlett Johansson's 'I've arrived and I am really SEXY but mature and a serious (but SEXY) actress who just accidentally conjures up images of Marilyn Monroe because it's not her fault I'm so naturally SEXY' moment? M's all time favourite BAFTA dress ever is Marion Cotillard from 2008. It had wings. Not in a bad fancy dress Claire Danes 1996 throwback kind of way, but in a whimsical I'm French and my wings were designed by Karl Lagerfeld kind of way. Genius, I'm pretty sure that's why she won.

Top 5 Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie is a big big favourite of J's.  As M is in New York this weekend, J has decided to take this moment to dedicate this week's Top 5 spot to Ms Richie.
J loves her because of her laid-back and accessible style, which still maintains a fun girly look with fab jewellery, great prints, and of course, scarves.  If J lived in LA and weighed 7 stone, this is how she would dress.
The fact that she's now a hot mummy and is not anorexic, makes J love her even more.

J also goes to New York in a few weeks and is positive that M will take the opportunity to focus on her original style obsession too... in a few week's Mary Kate Olsen will be gracing the Top 5 page...trust me.

Last one we promise

It deserved a section all of its own. Kate's festival style, so often imitated, but noone does it quite like Kate Moss...

And here are the Top 5 casual...

As J explained, searching for the Top 5 Kate Moss was a disaster waiting to happen. As we've seen, the girl knows how to throw on a dress, but she also does casual exceptionally well - basically founding 'The London Look'. Here are some classics...

Top 5 Kate Moss Evening Outfits

M and I have been discussing Kate Moss's outfits ever since we've known each other.  So we were very excited when we decided to make her our subject for this week's top 5, until we started to pick them out. Trying to do a top 20 was impossible, how the hell were we going to just ignore 15 amazing outfits and just have a top 5?!
So, we've decided to divide and conquer, hence, why we're focusing on her evening outfits here, and trust me, this was hard enough...

Top 5 .....Old School Sienna Miller...ok, it's top 6

Picture
To celebrate the 'alleged' reunion of Jude and Sienna, JAM have decided to look back to when Jude and Sienna first stepped out, to remind us why we all got ridiculously obsessed with her.
This was when Uggs became cool, gilets became de rigeur and long skirts became an acceptable fashion item for people other than those who knit their own yoghurt, and Sienna graced every single style page in 2004.
Here, ladies and gents, are Sienna's top 6 most iconic outfits....

JAM'S TOP 5 GOLDEN GLOBE DRESSES

M's top 2

Picture
Emily Blunt

Not many people can wear baby pink ruffles and have a nice young lady's British accent and still seems to maintain some element of the rock chick about her. I think it's the brunette thing. Such a pretty dress, not over the top, perfectly appropriate for a first time nominee with no chance of winning. Ok J informs me she's won a Golden Globe before but for TV which has diluted my point somewhat. Either way she looks very pretty, age appropriate and like she would be fun to hang out with at the after party. And her fiance is amazing.

Picture
Jennifer Aniston

Yes she's wearing black...again. Yes her hair is just boring and down as usual and looks like she just got here from the beach...again. Yes her shoes look like they're from 1996...again. But look at Jennifer Aniston... She's hot. She hooks up with a new hot man every six months. One minute on a yacht in Paris with Vince Vaughn, the next on tour with John Mayer. Now Gerry Butler (I believe it). She is just hot. She is hot, and I love her. And she's 40. Hot.

J's top 2

Picture
Penelope Cruz

Not only is she undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful women, she's also holding her own umbrella, respect.  Mariah Carey could learn and thing or two from Penelope.

J likes this as there are no boobs out or a big slit up the side of her dress, just real Hollywood glamour just like one should be at the Golden Globes.

Beautiful and classic.

Picture
Cameron Diaz

Another one holding an umbrella, maybe I just like these dresses because of the umbrellas....

J always loves Cameron Diaz's dresses, the pink Chanel at last year's GG made it to J's look book.  This year is just as good in classic McQueen. Blondes always look good in red and this dress is no exception.

She's another one that always looks like she's just fallen off her surf-board, thrown on some make-up and a dress and looks amazing.  J would never pull that off.

And JAM's number 1 makes it the top 5

Picture
Diane Kruger

And the top prize goes to Diane Kruger.

Even though we're not sure of the colour, we do like that it's bright and odd, and on anyone else it would look like something from Monsoon, but someway she looks amazing.

But we don't get why - she's not that interesting, her hair's not that special, and we're not quite sure when we all started wanting to dress like her.  But she's come from somewhere, and started going out with Pacey and looks hot so she's made it to the world of JAM.
